Arabella, It's just a doll...

Arabella, It's just a doll...

It’s been a few months since Duskmourn was released. With the rate at which sets are spoiled and launched these days, it can be very hard to keep up. So, I took it upon myself to go back and revisit some of the commanders from Duskmourn. Lo and behold, I found this unassuming doll. No, it’s not the real-world haunted doll Annabelle, but her distant cousin—Arabella.

Having played a Boros equipment deck with Wyleth at the helm for my first-ever Commander deck, I was excited to see what I could brew up with this Boros commander. Arabella’s main schtick is that for all the 1/1 or 2/2 weenies you have on board, she’ll deal that much damage to each opponent when she attacks. Like most decks I enjoy playing, this quickly makes you the archenemy—so let’s see what we can brew with her.

As a lover of goblin decks, I have plenty of goblin chaff lying around that needed a new home. Any old cards that help flood the board with token weenies won’t go wrong here. Cards like Krenko’s Command, Raise the Alarm, or even Bloomburrow’s Hop to It are great additions.

For actual creatures that generate more tokens, we have staples like both versions of Krenko. Anim Pakal provides a steady stream of Gnome artifact creatures, and Loyal Apprentice creates a Thopter at the beginning of combat.

We’ve also included some payoffs for token generation, such as Rumor Gatherer, Welcoming Vampire, and Molten Gatekeeper, which deals damage whenever a creature enters the battlefield. Impact Tremors, of course, helps with this strategy as well.

Now for the tricky part—we need to swing with our 1/3 Arabella to trigger her ability. Mithril Coat, Hedgewitch Mask, Reconnaissance, and Dolmen Gate all assist in keeping her around.

Suffice it to say, I’ve been impressed by the doll, and the deck itself was surprisingly cheap to put together. If you’re looking for something fun to jam in your pod, look no further than Arabella!

I’m planning to make my brews a regular feature on the Loot Goblin site, so be sure to check back often for more deck techs. And, of course, take a look at our playmats and tokens—our newest drop is live, featuring two new mats!

See you in the next one!
